Taken in the early 1900's, this is the ford (one of three in the area) in Leigh Road. The bridge was for foot traffic only and all vehicles had to go through the ford. Today there is a slip road from the M3 and two sets of traffic lights on the same spot, the present day fire station would be just out of the photograph, to the right.
