In 1928 the land surrounding Merdon, the big house situated in what is now Merdon Avenue, was sold, and Kingsway was developed with housing. The post office in this picture was on the junction of Kingsway and Hiltingbury Road (this view looks along Kingsway to the south) and was opened in 1930. Now closed, it was open as a post office for 72 years.
